Dunya Tour: Travel the World’s Streets

Walk real streets around the world and ask the people who live there

Dunya Tour is a mobile game where you travel through real streets in countries around the world with your own cartoon character, and ask the people who actually live there for their tips. It is the newest game in the Dunya family from Tapix Solutions, after the party quiz Dunya and the Cairo tuk-tuk game Dunya Zahma.

What is Dunya Tour?

“Dunya” means “the world” in Arabic, and that is exactly what this game is about. In Dunya Tour you create a cartoon character, choose your country, and say whether you live there. Then you start travelling. Every street in the game is a real street, taken from the free world map OpenStreetMap, so the places you visit are places you could really walk through one day.

When you stand on a street, the other players who are on the same street can see you, and you can see them. That is what makes Dunya Tour feel alive: it is not an empty map, it is a street full of travellers who are curious and people who know the place well.

Ask the locals in Dunya Tour

Guide books and reviews only tell part of the story. The best advice about a street usually comes from someone who lives on it. In Dunya Tour you can ask a question about the street you are on, and the people who live in that country can answer you. They can also write tips that every visitor sees, like where to eat, what to avoid, or the best time to go.

If you live in a country, you become the guide. You can write tips, answer the questions of travellers, and suggest places on your street by adding their Google Maps link. The game checks the position from that link to make sure the place really is on the right street. Each player’s card also shows how fast they usually reply and when they were last online, so you know when to expect an answer.

When an answer helps you, say “thanks”. The number of thanks a player gets shows on their card, so the most helpful locals are easy to spot.

Your passport, your trip and Grandpa’s diary

Dunya Tour is a game, not only an app for questions. As you travel you collect coins, fill your passport, follow your trip, keep Grandpa’s diary and level up. All of this progress is saved on your phone.

You can also send private messages to other players using ready-made questions and replies, with a short note of your own. The game sends you a notification when someone answers you, writes to you or thanks you, and you can turn notifications off from your phone’s settings at any time.

Safe and friendly by design

Dunya Tour is made for players aged 13 and over, and safety is built into everything people write. Phone numbers, links, requests for money and plans to meet up are blocked. Every player has report and block buttons, and the first 3 tips of every new player are reviewed by the Dunya Tour team before they appear to anyone.

The game never uses your phone’s real location. The street you stand on is a street inside the game, not where you are. Translation happens on your phone itself, so you can read what players write in other languages without sending their words anywhere.
